Brief Story

La storia del Castello

Built in the XI century by Attone Leuco Count, the Castle rises as a defensive fortress. His natural barriers can be found between the Ubione mountain and at the confluence of Imagna and Brembo rivers.

In the XIV and XV centuries, due to his strategical position, the Castle was contended between the Guelfi and Ghibellini. Both factions aimed to control the Brembilla Valley.

In 1443 took place the wildest battle, the Ghibellini had to leave the land; so the Serenissina governance calmed down. Castello di Clanezzo was seriously damaged by this fight: only ruins remained from the ancient structure.

Later on, several families who lived, in the Castle rebuilted and renovated it: the Locatelli’s, the Rota’s, the Bruscolini’s, the Martinengo’s, the Beltrama’s and the Roncalli’s.

From the sixties, Castello di Clanezzo is converted into a restaurant. In the eighties, the banqueting activity stopped for a few years.

In 1989, the Rota family took over the Castle and renovated it completely.

Giovanni and Clara Rota successfully conducted the activity for ten years.

Monday 8 October 2001 the tragic plane accident at Linate airport stopped their lifes. Whit them the youngest of their 4 son, Michele.

Now the hotel is ruled by the brothers Rota Paola, Matteo e Clemens.
